In 2012,with the broadcast of A Bite of China,the Chinese documentaries officially entered the so-called public era,which means the demands of the common people will determine the directions and formations of the documentaries.In order to satisfy the public tastes,the documentaries require high quality,diverse contents and constantly innovating.The first season of the series A Bite of China was well-known as a landmark work in the transformation of China's documentary film,yet multiple problems in narrative contents and narrative techniques during appeared in the subsequent third season,resulting in a significant decline in ratings and public praise.In addition,studies on the development of narrative strategies in China's documentary films are limited,which would,to a certain extent,affect their sustainable development.In the current article,via cross-disciplinary,starting from the perspective of cultural communication,taking the series A Bite of China as an example,the author seek the optimization solutions for the problems raised from the documentary narrative strategies and figure out the way to continuing the Intellectual Property(IP,which refers to intellectual property with a certain influence and representative brand image),in order to cast lights on the development of the similar types and even all types of documentaries in China.Using the document analysis method,case study method and pull-tab anal ysis method,this study taken the series of documentaries on A Bite of China as main research subject to expound the cultural communication background of its emergence and development from four aspects,which were the developme nt of new media technology,the development of visual culture communication,the development status of documentary and the demand of national cultural so ft power.From the five aspects including narrative structure and diet theme,re al events and audience resonance,storytelling narration and suspense setting,pe rspective-detail-soundtrack-rhythm,and Chinese stories and cultural communicati on,the narrative strategy of A Bite of China was analyzed and discussed base d on the perspective of cultural communication.In addition,the shortcomingswere also pointed out,such as the blurring of narrative subject because of the lack of continuity of communication subject,limitations in communication con tent and insufficient narrative authenticity,deficiency of communication feedbac k and narrative strategy adjustment.At the end,the corresponding countermeas ures are proposed.Firstly,the theme of communication and food culture should be integrated and focused.Secondly,enrichment of narrative content and techn iques are needed to improve the quality of cultural communication.Last but n ot the least,the feedback of audience requires adequate attention to enhance th e effect of cultural communication.In this study,we investigated the narrative strategy of the series document ary of A Bite of China based on the perspective of cultural communication an d analyzed the existing problems.It is found that enriching the content of the documentary,enhancing the dissemination effect of the documentary and spread ing the influence are the keys to the study.The proposed corresponding optimi zation methods provide references for enhancing the attraction,communication and influence of all types of documentaries,enhancing national cultural self-co nfidence and promoting the spread of Chinese culture.
