A Practice Report On Guide Interpretation At Tengwang Pavilion

With the popularity of tourism,China has become the world's third largest tourism host country.More and more foreign tourists who are interested in Chinese culture come to China for traveling.So escort interpreters play an important role in promoting communication among tour guide and foreign tourists.Thus,further research of the escort interpreting for the scenic spots should be done.Introduced by a friend who works at a travel agency,the task needs the author to help a Chinese tour guide as an escort interpreter.The report does a research on the escort interpreting for Tengwang Pavilion with the help of Skopos Theory.It can be divided into four parts.In the first chapter,description of the task,characteristics of the task and purpose and significance of the report is shown.In the second chapter,preparation before interpreting is mainly introduced,including practical preparation,cultural and historical preparation as well as theoretical preparation.The next chapter is the case analysis.The analysis demonstrates the choice of different strategies by examples while tackling a variety of purposes in interpreting.In the last chapter,major findings and limitations of the report are presented.And the report mainly answers the question: when the escort interpreter comes across some untranslatable words or poems,how an escort interpreter can do proper interpretation under the Skopos Theory during the process of escort interpreting.After finishing the practice,the answer to the question mentioned above was attained.When coming across untranslatable nouns,the escort interpreter should choose the best strategies according to different situations,and the strategies frequently used in the report are amplification,omission and conversion,etc.
