This is a report on the translation of Luxury Brands in China and India written by Glyn Atwal and Douglas Bryson,which is published by Palgrave Macmillan in June,2017.The source text of this translation practice report is first two chapters of this book.The SL text paints a picture of the luxury market’s “New Reality” in Chinese and Indian markets and dilemmas faced by marketers,and offers in-depth analyses and rich insights into marketing high-end products and services in China and India.This report is composed of five chapters.Chapter 1 is an introduction to the background,significance and structure of the report;Chapter 2 gives an overview of the source text from the aspects of its authors and content,and analyzes it in terms of text type and linguistic features;Chapter 3 introduces Nida’s functional equivalence theory in details,and demonstrates how it can be applied to this translation project;Chapter 4 contains the difficulties the translator came across in the translating and the relevant solutions employed;Chapter 5 is the conclusion part,which summarizes the lessons the translator has gained and the problems that can be better addressed in the future.
