The book Arte de la lengua chio chiu is a foreign language training textbook with both Chinese and Spanish wrntten by missionary(anonymity)in Manila,Philippines,in the 17th century to learn the local Hokkien.It is one of the earliest preserved documents of missionaries learning the grammar of the Hokkien,and can reflect the study and use of Hokkien in the early overseas Chinese to a certain extent.The study on Arte de la lengua chio chiu can push ahead the study of the Nanyang literature of the 17th century missionaries,and has practical significance for the compilation of other missionaries’ textbooks and Chinese teaching methods.At present,there is no Chinese translation of this book.After translating the book into Chinese,the author of the thesis sorts out the Holkkien corpus systematically recorded in the book and conducts an exhaustive analysis of the book from the perspective of linguistics.The paper consists of three parts.The first part includes the introduction of the research subject,the research significance,the research situation and the research methods.The second part from the second chapter to the fifth chapter is the main body of this paper.The part first analyzes the phonetic system and the use of characters in the book;and then analyzes the vocabulary system in the book from the perspective of lexical source,evolution and lexical features;this part also classifies the parts of speech and phrase structure in the vocabulary recorded in the book from the semantic categories and syntactic function;it examines the grammatical views implied in the book and analyzes the sentences shown in the book from the syntactic point as well;In the end it explains the history and practical value of the book Arte de la lengua chio chiu:It has reference significance for the preparation of Chinese textbooks for past missionaries,today’s teaching of Chinese as a foreign language and overseas literature research..The third part from six chapter to seven chapter is the conclusion part,including the conclusion,prospect and deficiency of the paper.Through the analysis of the linguistic elements from diachronic linguistics,the thesis draws the following conclusions.First,from a diachronic point of view,it is found that the initials and tones have not changed much.The difference is mainly on[m]-[b/m]、[n]-[1]、[n]-[g]and so on.But the number of finals has undergone a process of reduction before expansion and it is also unique in phonetic symbols.In terms of characters,the vast majority of characters are already normative characters currently used in convention,and some of them are replaced by variants or phonetic loan words;Second,foreign words,ancient words,the opposite syllables of Hokkien and Mandarin,dialect characteristic words are included in the book.And most words have remained stable and are still in use today;in addition,the Hokkien recorded in the book is dominated by single-morpheme,and contains some unique lexical features.Third,the quantifiers and quantitative phrases are mainly used in the book,and the quantifiers in Hokkien have regional characteristics.Fourth,the grammatical view embodied in the book has the characteristics of unity of commonality and individuality.The sentences recorded in the book are very standardized in structure.Fifth,the method of textbook compilation and Chinese teaching contained in the book provides reference and guide for the same or later generation.
