Research On Phonetic System Of Dictionario Hispánico Sinicum Of The Zhangzhou Dialect Four Hundred Years Ago

The dictionary,Dictionario Hispánico Sinicum,collected in the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines nearly 400 years ago,is an extremely important southern Fujian dialect document in the early 17 th century(in the late Ming Dynasty),which has been discovered in the recent years.By summarizing and sorting out the phonological system of Dictionario Hispánico Sinicum,it is compared diachronically and synchronically with Dictionarium Sinico-Hispánicum at the same period(1604),and some Zhangzhou Chinese and Western dialect literature and modern Zhangzhou dialect phonology,such as Ya Su Tong Fifteen(1818),Zengbuhuiyin(1820),Arte de la Lengua Chio Chiu(1620),Hokk?èn Dialect of the Chinese Language(1838),Hok-keen Dialect As Spoken in the Country of Tsheang—tshew(1831)and so on.This paper summarizes the homophonic vocabulary of Dictionario Hispánico Sinicum,compares it with the phonological system of Guangyun(Linguistic work created by Chen Pengnian and Qiu Yong in the Northern Song Dynasty),the representative of the midancient Chinese,and investigates its phonological status and the historical evolution track of pronunciation.In this paper the character of the special initials,finals and tone in Dictionario Hispánico Sinicum is discussed.We find what has been reflected in Dictionario Hispánico Sinicum is the phonological system of Zhangzhou dialect in the early 16 th and 17 th centuries,but it is also mixed with the rhymes of other dialects in Zhangzhou area.
