Ode To Shimen,Descriptive Research

The Eastern Han Dynasty is a period of great prosperity of development of official script.Ode to Shimen,sculptured on the wall of the stone gate of Xiebao ancient gallery road in Hanzhong,Shaanxi,is highly praised by epigraphy specialists of all ages.Epigraphy was popular since Zhao Mingcheng of Song dynasty wrote Jinshilu.By the time of Ming and Qing dynasties,epigraphy reached its large-scale development stage.A large number of epigraphy specialists worked on it.According to the record of New Stone Carving Materials,there were about 60 epigraphy specialists of Song,Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasties keeping a record of Ode to Shimen in their own books.There are differences among their record owing to kinds of reasons.The main reason is the source of their materials.Some epigraphy specialists visited Shimen in person,some recorded only by studying the rubbings and even some of them took a flippant attitude and relied on hearsay.My thesis aims at collecting materials about Ode to Shimen to take up classified study.On a basis of filed visits,the thesis will analyze some difficult problems and correct some mistakes.We will try our best to find out original Ode to Shimen.
