Culture is a social phenomenon and a product of human long-term creation. That is to say, culture refers to the history, traditional habits, lifestyles, behavioral norms, ways of thinking, values of a country or a nation.According to Bao Aoki, with the acceleration of globalization, the differences in culture, values, lifestyle and their respective goals become more and more obvious.People are always deeply influenced and restricted by the original culture, while constantly encountering different cultures.China and Japan are neighbouring countries with a narrow strip of water.Especially due to the influence of economic globalization, the two countries have had close exchanges in the fields of economy, commerce, exchange of foreign students, tourism and so on.Due to the differences of cultures between the two countries, understanding of different cultures has become a very important issue. As we all know, everyone knows shame. In China, shame is the essence of Chinese traditional culture. It is a virtue to seek honor and know shame.Shame culture also exists in Japan.Understanding the shame culture of the two countries plays a very important role in understanding the different cultures between China and Japan. At the same time, the understanding of the shame culture of the two countries plays a coordinating role in the communication between people. It can not only avoid friction, but also play a very important role in the smooth communication between them. Moreover, the understanding of Japanese culture also plays an important role in the friendly exchanges between China and Japan and in the development of China-Japan relations.Nowadays, many theories about Japanese shame culture in China are mainly based on the book "The Chrysanthemum and the Sword" However,"The Chrysanthemum and the Sword" is based on the background of the times at that time. For example,Douglas Lummis,an American scholar, believes that Benedict's "The Chrysanthemum and the Sword" is only a description of Japanese culture in the past, and that most of the "The Chrysanthemum and the Sword" are aimed at the customs and habits of the Japanese feudal era.Shame culture is changing and developing. In an era,it is considered shameful behavior.Decades later, people think that this is a very common thing, not shameful.Conversely,in an era it is not considered a shameful act or thing, and years later it is considered a shameful act.In a word, the form of shame culture is reflected in contemporary works along with social development, economic situation and international form. Therefore,in the light of the social background at that time,it would be closer to the facts to analyze the works that responded to social culture at that time.Firstly, based on the understanding of the content of shame culture, this paper starts with the structure of shame culture and the types of shame culture, and then analyses the shame culture of Japan in different periods. And through the analysis of Japanese shame culture in different periods,I want to make my modest contribution to the cultural understanding and further deepening exchanges between the two countries. This paper analyses the changes of Japanese theory in the 50 years after World War ?(1945-1994)combined with the background of the times at that time.Firstly, the shame culture of the occupation period is analyzed from two aspects.1.Culture of national shame in the early and middle period of occupation 2.Criticism of "The Chrysanthemum and the Sword and culture of shame in the late period of occupation. On the other hand, the contemporary shame culture mainly includes the shame culture in interpersonal relationship theory from 1960 to 1973;the shame culture in group psychology from 1974 to 1985;and the shame culture in life psychology from 1986 to 1994.
