Lily Yuen(Ruan Lingyu)is a renowned artiste in China's silent film history.During her movie career from the end-1920 s to1930s,she has left many classical movie images with high artistic and aesthetic value for the people.Her unique performance style and aesthetic value was not only unique for that age and have important historical significance,but are also an important reference for exploration and research on movie performances today.In this paper,we carried out a detailed search and research on historical materials on the life of Lily Yuen before and after she entered the film industry based on the background of China's movie history and developmental history of China's movie performance,particularly the onscreen experience when Lily Yuen joined a celebrity management company to her suicide.We carried out in-depth mining and exploration of the relationship between Lily Yuen's life and relationship experiences and the image of her characters,and the relationship between her personal values and personality traits and the artistic and aesthetic ideals that she pursued.While studying historical materials,our paper also combined practice and theory on theater performance and movie performance,particularly professional standards that conform more to current movie performances to attempt to carry out in-depth and professional analysis of movie performances based on the images of classical characters from various themes and types of movies starring Lily Yuen and personalities created for her movie performances.In addition,we also compared differences in multiple aspects between Lily Yuen and Butterfly Wu who has similar renown at the same time period,thereby highlighting the unique tragic personality of Lily Yuen's artistic performance.Our paper summarizes the contemporary social significance,moral significance,and alert education significance based on the large volume of Lily Yuen's film artistic images and appraisals by contemporary local and global film critics.At the same time,our paper refined the formation and development of Lily Yuen's realist artistic and aesthetic ideals and naturalistic personality attributes from an artistic and aesthetic perspective.This was used to create social aesthetic consensus formed by the aesthetic relationship with the audience and its aesthetic significance,thereby cementing the aesthetic value of Lily Yuen's realist film performance personalities and her irreplaceable leading role in China's movie history.
