A Study On Narrative Strategies Of Folk Handicraft Documentaries

The development of film and television technology enables the real world to be presented to people in the form of images.The documentary is mainly characterized by authenticity,serving as an expression of art.In other words,the documentary tends to make full use of realistic materials and images to tell stories,which is closely related to the narrative mode of documentaries.Narration can attract the audience to follow the ups and downs of the plot in the film both mentally and emotionally,thus generating a strong resonance and making the expression of humanistic connotation in the documentary more profound.From the narrative perspective of documentary,this paper takes film narratology as the theoretical guidance and analyzes the narrative methods,structure and strategy of the folk handicraft documentary to figure out its narrative features.Combined with theory,it will analyze the individual work termed ‘Shangdang cloth-pasting picture'.The paper contains five chapters.First,the introduction mainly presents the subject background,the purpose and significance of research,the literature review as well as the research methods of folk handicraft documentaries.The second chapter principally analyzes the narrative means of folk handicraft documentaries from two aspects: picture language and sound language.The third chapter primarily illustrates the narrative structure of folk handicraft documentaries from three facets: progressive narrative structure,parallel narrative structure,and tandem narrative structure based on central line.The fourth chapter chiefly elaborates the narrative strategy of folk handicraft documentaries from angles of detailed narration,story-oriented narration and narrative rhythm combining with such kind of documentaries.Lastly,the fifth chapter mainly analyzes the narrative mode of my individual work ‘Shangdang cloth-pasting picture' from three perspectives: the narrative means,the narrative structure and the narrative skills.In the end,the conclusion summarizes the research content as a whole.Folk handicraft is a creation by people who have constantly adapted themselves to nature during the long history of time and space.It reflects the human wisdom of advancing with times and the infinite national creativity,thus making it the dazzlingtreasure of the Chinese nation and the precious wealth of humankind.In recent years,with the accelerating development of industrialization and urbanization,folk handicraft has been inevitably affected and damaged to some extent.Worse still,it is confronted with a growing crisis of extinction due to the compulsory participation of both people and skill,which is exclusive to the handicraft work.The broadcast of folk handicraft documentaries has aroused people's attention to folk handicraft.The protection of folk handicraft has also been highly increased.Meanwhile,the documentary producers have also begun to explore more creative methods of this kind of documentary,thus the narrative mode and skills of the folk handicraft documentary have also been constantly innovated.
