For English learners,English reading is not only the main way to acquire language knowledge,understand cultural customs and get to know all over the world,but also can help English learners learn English well and master learning skills.Thus,English reading ability has become an important way to measure the comprehensive language ability of learners.Therefore,by comparing the differences between good and poor English in the use of English reading strategies,it can provide reference for the daily reading teaching in the future,and help poor students master good reading strategies through strategy training,so as to further improve their reading performance.Based on these,this paper attempts to explore the use of English reading strategies by high school students.This paper focuses on the following three issues: 1.What is the general situation of senior high school students' use of English reading strategies? 2.Is there any significant correlation between students' English reading scores and the use of English reading strategies? 3.Are there any significant differences between good English learners and poor English learners in the use of English reading strategies?85 high school students of secondary grade from Lin Tao senior high school are selected as subjects.This thesis adopts questionnaire and interview to solve the above problems.Some findings are found by the analysis of the questionnaire and interview.1.The frequency of senior high school students' overall use of reading strategies is not very high,among the three types reading strategies discussed in this thesis,the metacognitive strategies are relatively more frequently used than other two kinds of reading strategies.2.Reading comprehension' scores and reading strategies are positively correlated with each other.3.Good and poor English learners do exist significant difference in their use of three types of English reading strategies,good English learners use these three types of strategies more frequently than poor English learners.It can be seen from the research results that students can improve their English reading level by using reading strategies flexibly and reasonably.Therefore,teachers need to pay more attention to the cultivation of students' reading strategies,so as to help students improve their reading scores.
