A Report On "Facing The Opportunities And Challenges Of Globalization" By Boao Talk

This interpreting practice report selects "Boao Talk" on Boao Forum for Asia 2017 as its material and the theme of this interview is "Facing the Opportunities and Challenges of Globalization".It introduces the discussion of Boao Forum on the kind of thinking and judgement that has brought to Chinese economic development under the deglobalization background in 2017.The interpreter simulated the interview spot to do the practice of consecutive interpretation.During the actual simulation of the interpreting practice,the interpreter found out many problems which are needed to pay attention to and improve.Those terminologies,different simulated characters and fast talking speed have increased the difficulties of this interpreting practice.How to split and reconstruct long sentences,connect and merge them together quickly and reasonably in order to get better rhythm of communication is also the focus of this interpreting practice.Therefore,the interpreter will focus on the interpretation of words,long sentences and incomplete sentences and adopt different interpreting strategies to concentrate on these three parts.For example,the interpreter will use the techniques of simplification,subtraction and omission to deal with the use of repeated words,select the strategies of linear interpretation,division and combination to interpret long sentences,and choose amplification method while facing incomplete sentences.All these strategies will make the Chinese to English conversion better and smooth.Due to the difference between Chinese and English in cultural background,use and expression of word,it is very necessary for the interpreter to adopt targeted strategies for translation.This will help the interpreter better understand the contents of the interview and perform more proper interpretation.I strongly hope that these several strategies that are summarized in the report may play a positive role in the consecutive interpretation.
