Preface is an important carrier for Borges to comment on writers' works,to explore the nature of literature and to convey creative ideas. It is also an important channel for us to understand the writers themselves. This paper takes the style of preface as the breakthrough point, through a comprehensive survey of the general situation of Borges' s preface writing,to summarize the author's outlook on preface, the concise style of preface works and the literary and artistic viewpoints contained in his works. In his childhood, his father's library and his post-work librarian status were the two most important factors for Borges to get access to a large number of books, which also provided him with the basic conditions for writing the preface in the future.Borges' preface works are of various kinds, involving literature, religion, history and natural sciences, and their contents are also rich and varied, including the introduction of writers and the interpretation of works. The preface, which grew up in different soils of China and the West, has different development history and writing style.China's “Preface” style has undergone a long evolutionary process from its emergence to its establishment as a style and then to its maturity. In the West, the “Preface” is constructed as a specific category under the sub-text system.Borges' preface view shows the characteristics of combining tradition with breakthrough and innovation. From the stylistic point of view,Borges' s preface works are characterized by "concise beauty".At the same time,we can also see some of the writer's literary and artistic viewpoints from Borges' numerous prefaces.Dreams, illusions and passions represent Borges' views on the essence of literature, the authenticity of literature and the motive force of literary development.
