Yichang city is located in the southwest of Hubei province.Yichang dialect commonly used by all nationalities in China belongs to South-western Hubei district of Chengdu-Chongqing area of Southwest mandarin.The previous researches on Yichang dialect mainly focus on the investigation and description of phonology of Yichang dialect and some unique phonetic phenomena in Yichang dialect.It is agreed that Yichang dialect has no entering tone and all transformed into the second tone.However,in my early field work,I found that glottal stop still remained in some areas in Yichang dialect.In this paper,Yichang dialect was as the research object,and the special phonetic phenomena-entering tone in Yichang dialect was investigated and studied with the method of instrumental phonetics.Based on the factors such as social and cultural history,the retention and distribution of entering tone of Yichang dialect were explained,and the trend of evolvement was forecasted.in order to further reveal the phonetic features of Yichang dialect and deepen the research of Yichang dialect.This paper consists of four chapters.In the first chapter,the research summary of Yichang dialect,the purpose and significance,research content,research methods and innovation points were mainly introduced.In the second chapter,a brief introduction of the phonetic system in Yichang central district was given to provide references for the full text.In the third chapter,the process of the experiment on entering tone in Yichang dialect was described in detail,including the specific performance and specific recording steps of glottal stop in instrumental phonetics.In the fourth chapter,the status quo of entering tone of Yichang dialect was introduced,and the reasons were analyzed from region,age,nation,gender,occupation and education degree.
