The screenplay "The Year of Graduation" tells a story of things happen to a college girl-He Bailu-in her senior year. The play follows the clue of He Bailu pursuing her ultimate dream-studying abroad.Since He Bailu's college application was modified by her father,He Weimin, without her permission, she decides to apply for overseas universities to study the subject she is fond of.However, she cannot afford the tuition, nor can her written English meet the standard. She falls in love with a guitarist and student from an American school,Zhang Yang. They develops a relationship. With the help from Zhang Yang,He Bailu receives the offer from her dream school. She has a fight with He Weimin when asking him for tuition, and she breaks up with Zhang Yang because of his miserable personality. He Bailu cannot graduate on time because her best friend traps her up.He Weimin gets a stroke so her daughter goes home to take care of him.In the end,the father realizes his faults and provides He Bailu money to achieve her dream by selling the house. The thesis "The End of Youth:An Interpretation of 'The Year of Graduation'",elaborates the screenplay from three aspects:inspiration, text analysis, meaning and obstacle. It points out the main drive, the personality, the need, and the characteristics of major characters and proves there is a close connection between characters and the plot.Meanwhile, the paper explains the reasons behind the arrangement of plots and illustrates the setting of the "point of attack".It demonstrates the significance of theme and summarizes the difficulties during being created. The paper compares the play to the genre of teen film in the current film market, revealing some subcultures in modern school campus life.It also takes a glimpse of growing pains of the youth from a respectful point of view.
