Workplace incivility is increasingly rampant in the workplace, not only harming employees’ physical and mental health, the spiral effect of incivility also points out that incivility experiences will lead to victim’s "tit for tat" and incivility perpetration, destroying the interpersonal relationships in organization.Accordingly, the present study suggests that incivility experience can positively affect victim’s incivility perpetration.Combined with theories of emotion and researches related to anger, this study points out that victim’s anger will mediate the relationship between incivility experience and incivility perpetration. However, victims not always revenge, they can also neglect or avoid incivility.According to studies of belief in a just world,we further suggest that victim’s belief in a just world can buffer the relationship between incivility experience and perpetration. Thus we develop a moderated mediation model to examine the mediating effect of victims anger and moderating effect of belief in a just world. The research collect data from 358 Chinese employees by means of online questionnaire survey, the results from SPSS PROCESS macro analysis show that:(1)Incivility experience can positively predict incivility perpetration.(2)Anger can mediate the relationship between incivility experience and incivility perpetration.(3)Belief in a just world can moderate the direct relationship of incivility experience and incivility perpetration, the higher the victim’s belief in a just world, the less victim will continue to instigate incivility.(4)Belief in a just world can also moderate the indirect relationship of incivility experience and perpetration through anger, the higher the victim’s belief in a just world, the less victim will feel angry, and the less victim will continue to instigate incivility. The results have certain theoretical and practical meanings. |
