A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Crisis System:A Critical Realist And Environmental Critique Of Economics And The Economy

As the engine of propelling social development,economy,plays an indispensable role today.This report is based on the translations of two economic papers selected from a collection of economic papers,A Critical Realist and Environmental Critique of Economics and the Economy.The two selected texts are: Systemic Issues Within the Crisis of Global Capitalism: The Case of Land and Food,and The Symptomatology of Crises: Some Critical Realist Reflections.Both focus on the economy and crises which are the hot topics of today's world.Classified as informative texts,they are academic works which contain numerous terminologies with standardized language.The process of translation is under the guidance of the theory of cohesion,which is derived from the Systemic Functional Linguistics established by Halliday.Cohesion is a link of grammar or lexica which ties different items together as a text.This process is carried out by cohesive devices which express the relation of items.Under the guidance of the theory,translators can figure out the relations between various items and restore such relations in the target text.By this task,the notion of restoring the relations between items in translation might be acquired.And the difference between English and Chinese would be further explored as well,particularly,on the devices of cohesion.
