With the deepening of cultural exchanges between China and the western countries, more and more western music literature has been introduced into China. The translation of musical literature,as a link and bridge for transmitting music information,is a key link in the exchange of musical culture between China and foreign countries and is of great significance to the development in that field.Guided by the functional equivalence theory proposed by the American linguist, translator, and translation theorist Eugene Nida, the thesis takes the book How to Listen to Great Music——A Guide to Its History,Culture, and Heart as the translation materials and mainly discusses the translation methods and strategies of music texts from four aspects: lexical, syntactical, textual and stylistic levels. It tries to analyze and solve the problems and difficulties in translation practice with the method of conversion, semantic extension, addition, omission, linear translation, reverse translation, division, combination and complementing in translating figures of speech and summarizes the gains and shortcomings in this translation practice so as to better cope with the problems encountered in the future more efficiently.
