A Contrastive Study Of The Words Marked〈方〉in The 1st And 7th Editions Of Modern Chinese Dictionary

In this paper,the 1st and 7th editions of Modern Chinese Dictionary(hereinafter referred to as Modern Chinese)are used as sources of materials.Firstly,all the words marked〈方〉in the two editions are described and analyzed in a static and exhaustive way.Then,the words marked〈方〉in the two editions are compared one by one,and the changes of dialectal words in Modern Chinese are recorded.Then,it makes a comparative analysis of the words in the two editions but with different definitions,and probes into the reasons for the changes of the dialect words in the two editions.The full text is divided into five chapters,as follows:The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly introduces the research object,research status,research methods and research significance of this paper.The second chapter is a comparative study of the words marked〈方〉and expressions in the two editions.This paper makes a detailed quantitative analysis of the 2225 words in the 1st edition and the 2505 words in the 7th edition from the aspects of syllable number,neutral tone,retroflex and the number of sense items.Overall,there is not much difference between the two editions,basically maintained a relatively stable volume and proportion.The third chapter is an investigation of the addition and deletion of words marked 〈方〉in the two editions.The newly added words marked 〈方〉are mainly developed from two aspects: meaning type and dialect source,in which the types of meaning is mainly character type,social work type and situation type.In the source of dialect,words with a narrow range of use are most often absorbed.While the deleted words marked 〈方〉are still developed from these two aspects,in which the types of meaning are mainly characters,situations and daily life.In the source of dialect,the use of words with very narrow areas are removed the most,and there are some words used in a very wide area but still be removed out.The fourth chapter is the comparison of the interpretation of the words marked 〈方〉in the two editions.The chapter mainly focuses on the adjustment of sense items and matches and the problems existed in the adjustment of interpretation.In the adjustment of the sense items,there are three kinds of sense items addition: the new sense items have no logical relationship with the original sense items,the new sense items have meaningful relationship with the original sense items,and the new sense items are the independent sense items which are separated from the original sense items.There are four kinds of sense items deletion: no longer marking the party after entering the common language,combining the semantic items and so on.There are five kinds of changes in the meaning of a word: the meaning of a word changes completely but the object it refers to does not change;the meaning of a word changes slightly but the meaning does not change substantially.Through the analysis of the adjustment of sense items and case,it is found that the words marked〈方〉in the 7th edition still has the problems of lack of case and incomplete case in interpretation.In the fifth chapter,the author makes a comprehensive discussion on the changes of the words marked 〈方〉 in the Modern Chinese from the aspects of social life,public psychology and national policies,internal and external aspects of the language.Draw the conclusion that various factors complement each other and play a role together.
