The key competences of a discipline are the concentrated expression of the value of the subject's education,the correct values,the essential character and the key ability gradually formed by the students through the study of the subject.Cultivating the key competences of English subject is one of the major measures to deepen the reform of English curriculum for basic education.The textbook is an important carrier for cultivating students' key competences of a discipline.This paper intends to explore the cultivation of students' key competences of English subject through a comprehensive analysis of the current textbooks,New Senior English for China(NSEFC).So this article will answer the following two questions:1.How are the four key competences of English subject embodied in NSEFC?2.What measures can teachers take to make full use of the textbooks to cultivate students' key competences of English subject?Based on the research theory of the key competence by the majority of scholars,with the interpretation of the key competences of English subjects by Cheng Xiaotang and other scholars as the main basis,the author comprehensively analyzes the materials of the compulsory textbooks 1-5 of New Senior English for China in order to find out the embodiment of the key competences of English subject in NSEFC.Text analysis method is adopted in the research.The study found that the textbook has rich and colorful reading themes,diversified text genres,compact structure,and progressive reading activity design,etc.These will be of great help to cultivate students' key competences of English subject.The textbooks will definitely have an important impact on the improvement of the key competences of students' language competence,cultural disposition,thinking quality and learning ability.Through the research and analysis of the text,the author believes that teachers can take the following measures to cultivate students' key competences of English subject from the following aspects: Firstly,teachers can reasonably select the content of the teaching materials,increase or decrease the teaching activities to help students improve their language ability gradually according to the teaching time and the students' cognitive level,as well as the learning status and classroom feedback.Secondly,teachers can present in-depth interpretations of the texts of different themes and genres,and use the text as a carrier to strengthen the cultivation of students' thinking quality and cultural disposition.Finally,teachers should make full use of the classroom activities provided by the textbooks to improve students' critical thinking and learning ability.This article also puts forward the following teaching suggestions on how to make full use of this set of textbooks to cultivate students' key competence of English subject.First,it is appropriate to supplement students with reading materials that are close to contemporary life or involve current hot topics.Second,it is important to improve the word recurrence rate so that students can regularly review the vocabulary and grammar rules they have already learned.Third,teachers should provide students with listening materials with accents of different nations.This thesis is divided into five chapters.The first chapter briefly introduces the research background,research purposes and research significance.The second chapter combs relevant literature of key competence both abroad and home and the the related contents of English subject key competences.The third chapter introduces research design,including research questions,research methods and research procedures.The fourth chapter presents the results of the analysis.The fifth chapter is the the conclusion,including the author's main findings and suggestions for teachers,and finally the limitations of this study.
