| English,as an important second language, occupies a very important position in Chinese college entrance examination.Writing,as an important part of it,is an important means to test students’ output ability. However, writing is a relatively difficult part of English for students. The English Course Standard for Senior School Students(2017)makes clear requirements on the writing ability of senior high school students.According to the actual situation of students, though they meet the standards, they make many errors in writing. Therefore, this thesis is aimed at finding out the errors made by students in the process of writing and summarizing them so that students can have a clear understanding to their mistakes. The differences of error distribution between male students and female students’ errors as well as high-score students and low-score students’ errors were also studied and analyzed. Finally, the reasons for these mistakes were explored so that in the future students could take appropriate measures to correct their own mistakes and make as few mistakes as possible. To solve the following three questions:(1)What are the common errors senior one students make in English writing?(2)What differences appear in terms of error distribution?(3)What are reasons for these errors made by students? Based on the contrastive analysis, error analysis and inter-language theory and with the guidance of Corder’s error analysis steps, the author, firstly, collected the writing samples(from their test)of students as the research materials, and then made use of the qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis to analyze students’ errors and differences in error distribution. At last, reasons why these errors appear were explored according to the analysis on writing samples and results from interview. It is found that, firstly, the errors made by students involve three aspects: lexis, sentence and discourse.Lexical errors account for the largest proportion.Secondly, there are differences in terms of error distribution between students. That is to say, there are great distribution differences between male and female students in lexis level.Specifically, boys are better than girls when they use verbs, but inferior to girls when they use nouns, while girls are just in the opposite situation.High score students and low score students also have differences in vocabulary and discourse.High score students are more likely to make errors when using verbs, but they can better use sufficient viewpoints to prove their core ideas,so they are more likely to get higher scores.Thirdly, the reasons for the error involve the following three aspects.Firstly, language transfer makes contribution to students’ various errors;Secondly, the students are weak in fundamental language knowledge, lacking in practicing English and teachers as well as students do not pay attention to the feedback from compositions;Thirdly, insufficient input of language knowledge does have great impact on students’ increasing knowledge. |
