| With the continuous development of the global economy and the rapid progress of science and technology, many countries have made great progress in this field, which proImotes the exchange of talents in this field around the world. The translation of scientific literature is playing an increasingly important role in the scientific and technological exchanges around the world. The range of this kind of literature covers many fields, including aerospace, material science, metallurgy and mining, transportation, water conservancy, civil engineering, biomedicine and so on.Water conservancy and hydropower literature,as an important direction of scientific and technological literature, plays an important role in the exchanging of professional personnel in this field. However, there are relatively few translations of relative foreign literature in China. The translation of literature in this direction will help to introduce foreign advanced ideas and technologies into China and promote academic exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries.Scientific and technological literature is the literature with certain reference value to science and technology. It is the carrier to record scientific knowledge and information. Its translation requires accurately and objectively conveying the content of the original text. The translator selected a paper from River Basin Management, translated it according to Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, and explained the problems encountered in the process of translation. The Functional Equivalence Theory emphasizes that the translation between two languages need not focus on the superficial equivalence between words, but on the equivalence in the meaning of sentences,so as to achieve functional equivalence. The translation skills used for these problems will be discussed in the fourth chapter. The translation techniques are mainly used in the translation of professional terms and acronyms, the translation of passive voice, clauses and long and difficult sentences, and how to maintain the logicality, objectivity and preciseness of the translation,so as to achieve the equivalence of vocabulary, syntax, text and style. In the whole process of translation, the translator finds that in scientific and technological texts, the translation of professional terms and acronyms must be paid much attention,so as to achieve lexical equivalence. It is necessary to avoid mentioning the agent in the translation of the passive voice, accurately judge the type of the subordinate clause in the translation of the subordinate clause, and divide the long sentences into corresponding short sentences in translation,so as to achieve syntactic equivalence.Attention should be paid to the cohesion and logicality of context to achieve textual equivalence. In the process of translation, the objectivity, accuracy and preciseness of source texts should be always maintained. |
