The report is written based on the translation of The Fat Tech Dragon and Disruptors,Innovators, and Thieves. The two texts are both technological innovation assessment reports chosen from China Innovation Policy Series launched by Center for Strategic and International Studies of America. The Fat Tech Dragon takes a macro view and evaluates the overall performance of China in technological innovation through comparative analysis between five representative innovation indexes;while Disruptors,Innovators, and Thieves takes a micro view and assesses the innovation performance of China‘s Internet sector through an analysis of the three types of identities of Chinese Internet companies. The two reports both provide an objective evaluation of China‘s ability to innovate from the perspective of American researchers, affirming the progress it has made in funding and intellectual property and meanwhile pointing out sharply problems like unfavorable innovation environment, unreasonable investment structure and long time lag between inputs and outputs. They are of great significance in offering insight into the strong points and weak links in China‘s technological innovation, provoking some thought about the current innovation strategies and making adjustments, and thus further advancing innovation. The report applies the framework of comprehension, expression and adaptation proposed by Prof.Li Changshuan to review the translation process from comprehension to expression and adaptation, from the completion of the first draft of translation to that of its revised and final versions. It aims to discuss how to solve the practical problems encountered in the translation practice: how to understand ST with the help of critical thinking, context, search engines and dictionaries;how to overcome the problems such as inappropriate diction, westernized Chinese, verbosity and misplacement of information focus in the step of expression so as to accurately convey the original information in idiomatic Chinese;and how to make necessary adaptations by means of amplification, omission, shift of perspective, use of idioms and paraphrase. The report finally sums up the difficulties the translator overcame in each of the translation steps, the mistakes and defects found in the first draft of translation and the typical problems in Chinese translated texts, and proposes corresponding solutions based on the translator's practical experience. It is expected to provide some enlightenment for other translators who perform E-C translation task.
