A Study Of Bian Zhilin’s Translation Paratexts

Bian Zhilin is a writer,and a translator.He achieved significant success in literary translations.Moreover,he wrote a large number of paratexts in his translations.Due to his fruitful paratexts,Bian Zhilin’s translation paratexts are worthy of research.They bring a new aspect of literary translation studies.Translation paratexts have been taken as parts of translation skills or strategies.However,translation paratexts contain a variety of details of translation process.They are the primary data to study translators and translations.Currently,the studies on this topic increase,but Bian’s translation paratexts are still waiting for explorations.Bian Zhilin’s translation paratexts can be divided into five parts.The first part is to introduce the background,the purpose,the significance and the structure of the study.The second section is to record the previous academic results which were made by other scholars.This section includes the overview of Bian Zhilin’s translations,the definition of paratexts and translation paratexts,the previous studies of translation paratexts and the reasons for choosing the current studies.The third part is to illustrate the content of Bian Zhilin’s translation paratexts.The content of his translation paratexts consists of his translation views,translation explanations,and other special contents of translation paratexts.In this part,nine Bian Zhilin’s typical translations were chosen to be the research materials,and his translation prefaces,annotations,and postscripts were arranged and classified in order to further analyze his translation paratexts.The fourth part is to analyze the features,values and limitations of Bian’s translation paratexts.There are five features: recordablility,argumentability,instructabilitiy,strictness of attitude,and vividness.His translation paratexts are valuable in translation history and translation theories.Meanwhile,there are some limitations in history and information.The five part is to conclude the achievements of the study of Bian’s translation paratexts.Translation paratexts are the important carriers of translator’s views and strategies.They are the significant supporting evidences of one’s translation process.Bian’s translation styles and characteristics are shown in his paratexts.Translation paratexts are important and valuable text types for us to explore.They are also the references for the readers and the translators.They enrich the translation studies from a new perspective.
