Sallust is a famous historian in the Roman Republic. He has played an important role in the history of Western Latin and even in the history of Western historiography.More valuable than the historical events described by Sallust is his historical perspective and the values conveyed in his works, especially his historical notion of morality, which influenced generations of historians. In response to the demise of morality in the rich and powerful society of Rome,Latin historians put their pens on the book and judged them morally to achieve the historical effect of morality discipline. This is a major style of Roman historians.Sallust is no exception. From his historical writings,we can clearly feel his nostalgia and advocacy of the good character in early Rome. And the dissatisfaction and criticism of the aristocratic oligarchy, and he hopes to inspire the people through moral preaching to save the Roman Republic. In the eyes of Sallust, history has become a place for him to teach morality, and moral discipline has become a way to reshape the spirit and quality of the nation. This paper is based on the historical writings that Sallust has spread to the world to explore the historical notion of morality that is conveyed in his works. This paper mainly summarizes the historical view of Sallust's historical notion of morality from four aspects.First,I analyze the origin of Sallust's historical notion of morality from three aspects: historians, philosophical schools and Roman social reality, and explore the reasons for its formation.Secondly, based on existing texts,I analyze the moral tendency and value expressed by Sallust in his works.Once again,I explore the influence of Sallust's historical notion of morality from two aspects: Roman historians and later historians by comparing their writings. Finally,I analyze the compiling features of the historical works of Sallust.
