A Report On The Translation Of Heavy Oil Production Processes(Excerpt)

With the increasing demand for oil and the rising price of oil,the importance of heavy oil recovery begins to emerge.This thesis is a translation report about Chapter 5 of Heavy Oil Production Processes.This chapter mainly introduces thermal methods of heavy oil recovery,which is the most widely used recovery technology in the world.Compared with domestic thermal recovery methods,external recovery methods have gained leadership globally,thus the translation of this material can provide some guidance for those engaged in this field.This text is composed of four parts: task description,process description,case analysis and conclusion.In task description,the source text,objectives and significance of the translation are introduced.In process description,pre-translation preparations are made,which include parallel texts,translation tools and glossary building.Nida's surface structure and deep structure theory is elaborated and the difficulties during translation are summarized.In case analysis,translation of words,sentences and discourse under the guidance of surface structure and deep structure theory are analyzed.At lexical level,analysis is made from professional field,context and surface structure and deep structure.Passive sentences,attributive sentences and long and complex sentences are discussed at syntactic level while logical relationship is analyzed at textual level.Last but not least,reflections are made,aiming at providing reference for other translators.
