With the great strides in Information Technology, social media has an increasingly tremendous impact on our society and life. Thus, this thesis presents an English-Chinese translation of Dimensions of the Social World, the second part of the book The Mediated Construction of Reality. This book expounds how social media rewrites our society and life in the information age and sketches the dimensions of the social world from three aspects: time, space and data.As a social science work in sociology, the source text is abundant with terminologies, complex sentences and coherent paragraphs. At present, although a large number of translations of social science texts have sprung up in China, there remain few studies on normative translation from the perspective of translation ethics.Being relatively systematic and objective, translation ethics puts forward five models for translators. Therefore, this theory is significant for regulating the translation of social science texts.Aiming at a normative translation, the author mainly adopts the three models of Chesterman's translation ethics, that is,ethics of representation, ethics of communication, and norm-based ethics, and chooses the corresponding translation methods accordingly. In other words, translation techniques of zero translation, paraphrase, foreignization and domestication, etc.are employed to solve the translation problems from lexical and syntactic aspects.Based on above practice, this paper elucidates how to translate a social science text normatively under the guidance of translation ethics theory.
