| English class is the main place for senior high school students to learn English.Lead-in is the first stage of the reading class.Although it only occupies 3 to 5 minutes,lead-in plays a crucial role in the whole teaching activities.As the saying goes,well begun is half done.Classroom lead-in plays a positive role in arousing students’ interest and improving their English reading ability.Nowadays,the teaching tasks are strenuous in senior high school,and teachers are busy with completing classroom teaching tasks and responding to the needs of examinations.Some teachers do not pay attention to the lead-in stage or even ignore this teaching procedure.Therefore,the research on the lead-in of English reading class in senior high school has become a problem to be solved.This survey aims to discover the current situation for lead-in of English reading in senior high school,taking Tanghe No.1 senior high school of Henan province as the research base.A questionnaire survey was conducted among 300 students and 20 English teachers of grade one and grade two in senior high school.Subsequently,with the basis of questionnaire survey,10 students and 6 English teachers were selected as the interviewees.In addition,4 English teachers had been observed in class for one month.Interview and classroom observation were recorded by taking notes and recording.The data collected in the questionnaire were analyzed and processed by SPSS 20.The data collection and arrangement were carried out by the author.This study mainly solves the following questions:(1)What is the overall situation of lead-in part in English reading classes in senior high school?(2)What are the lead-in methods frequently used in English reading classes in senior high school?(3)What are the causes of the problems in the lead-in part in English reading classes in senior high school?The results show that:(1)At present,the lead-in in English reading course in senior high school has been valued a lot.Both teachers and students acknowledge its necessity.However,there are still some deficiencies.From the student’s point of view,the time setting of the lead-in is not appropriate enough,and the types of lead-in are not abundant.Lead-in part is not designed elaborately by teachers.Lead-in can not better clear the learning aims and connect the previous and new knowledge.At the same time,some of the lead-in has not played a role in enriching the classroom teaching and promoting English reading learning.From the teacher’s point of view,the time setting of the lead-in is not reasonable enough.Besides,in the actual teaching,teachers do not set lead-in in every new lesson,even if they do,the way of lead-in is not varied and attractive enough.(2)There are many common ways of lead-in used by English teachers.The multimedia and topic lead-in ways are frequently used,but they lack attraction.(3)The causes of the problems in the lead-in part in English reading classes in senior high school are as follows: Firstly,the setting time of lead-in is not allocated properly.Secondly,teachers do not consider the subjectivity of the students.Thirdly,teachers lack the theoretical knowledge of class lead-in.Fourthly,teachers do not have the consciousness of optimizing the way of lead-in.Based on the analysis and discussion of above three questions,the author puts forward some suggestions for English teaching and learning in the lead-in of English reading class in senior high school.(1)Teachers should reasonably control the time setting of class lead-in;(2)Teachers are expected to consider the needs of students and constantly improve their own teaching skills;(3)Teachers should enrich the theoretical knowledge related to class lead-in;(4)Teachers should strengthen the consciousness of optimization for class lead-in;(5)Students should actively take part in the class lead-in;(6)Students should provide suggestions for their teachers’ class lead-in.In this way,it is hoped that teachers’ practical ability and teaching effect of lead-in in English reading class can be improved to promote students’ English reading level and academic performance.However,due to the small sample size of this study,there are still some deficiencies in this study.The author hopes that the future research can be further improved. |
