The Origin Of Taoist Yubu Ritual

Yu bu was called "trample beidou" in Taoism.It is an important part of Taoist ritual and magic.But Yubu predates Taoism and it is said that it was closely related to dayu,the hero of water control in ancient times.The written records about it appeared in the Spring and Autumn Period.The history of Yubu is long and complicated.In the process of its transformation from primitive witchcraft to spiritual rituals in Taoism,it incorporated elements of beidou belief,myths and legends,the thought of the unity of heaven and man,and even the theory of divination.The final state of Yubu is represented by a "spell base" with a wide range of applications.Yu bu played an important role not only in Taoism but also in folk religion.Through the analysis of this ritual,this paper starts from the origin of its myths and beliefs,the development and changes in history,the logic and principle of operation,the spread and role in different regions to explores the formation and development of it,so as to understand its internal logic and principle,and achieve a comprehensive analysis of the ritual of Yu bu.
