The Research On The Development Of The Department Of History In The Great China University(1924-1951)

As the main institution of historical research in China,the department of history in East China Normal University develops from the department of history of the Great China University founded in 1924 with a modest scale due to limited funds and teachers.However,selecting historical materials from actual conditions forms its own characteristics among universities in the Republic of China.History and Geography Society together with Historical and Sociological Research Office set up a platform for academic research.History and Geography Series,Knowledge of History and Geography,New History and Geography,Monthly Journal of Abstracts of Historical,Geographical and Social Papers,Quarterly Journal of History and Society have inspired the students' enthusiasm for academic research since establishment.The history and social department,the result of merging historiography and sociology departments,plays a pioneering role in the study of ethnic minorities in Guizhou Province after the southward migration.The teachers in the Great China University achieve fruitful achievements under the initiative of the spirit of “Freedom and Cooperation”.Many experts such as Chen Xulu and Lin Zhichun,fostered in the tutorial system and research courses,are dominant figures in their respective fields of study in the future.In a word,the Department of history of the Great China University plays an important role in teachers training and academic research in Shanghai,which is of great significance to the study of the history department of The Great China University.Taking the evolution of the department of history as the clue,this paper divides the department of history of the Great China University into three periods including "the establishment and early development of the history department of the Great China University(1924-1932)","the combination of history and Sociology department(1933-1938)" and " the booming historical Social department(1939-1951)".The operating mechanism and the subject development will be researched through the introduction of its daily management,teachers status,and students training.
