The Great China University was a private university which had been closely involved in politics ever since its establishment in 1924 in Shanghai by the anti-authoritative staff and students of Xiamen University.Among the students who led the Xiamen University Student Movements and who set up the Great China University, there were left-wing progressive students and members of the Communist Party. However, the Xiamen University Student Movements is sponsored by both Kuomintang and the Communist Party. The Youth Party who entered the university in 1924 had experienced fierce contests with other parties.Ten years before the anti-Japanese Aggressive War,Wang Boqun, headmaster of the Great China University, and He Yingqin, member of the board, provided not only large sums of donations but also political supports for the Great China University in its confrontation with the Ministry of Education. The Great China University had thus maintained its "independence" as it can been seen from its mass remembrance of the Yunnan Revolution and from its struggle with the Ministry of Education over the course concerning party values. After the centre of the war transferred to Guizhou, the Great China University, with its strong board, had started a four-year negotiation with the Ministry of Education over the reform of changing the Great China University into a public university,so as to solve its economic problems.Although the reform failed due to the intervene of Wang Jingwei and Fu Shishuo, the process had been a torture to Chen Lifu, minister of education, and even Jiang Jieshi made compromises.Facing with the war,Wang Boqun drew political supports from both central and local governments to make sure that the Great China University stood strong in Guizhou. He also transformed the political capitals into economic capitals for the sake of the University. After the victory of the anti-Japanese Aggressive War,the Great ChinaUniversity moved back to Shanghai and fell into a political dilemma because of the confrontation between Kuomintang and the Communist Party.Accordingly,Wang Boqun, who had been the core of the Great China University, was then falling to be the University's burden.
