Joseph Conrad,an excellent English Polish writer who‘s familiar with the sea owns 20-year navigation experience.Besides, the sea greatly influenced Conrad's understanding of the subject and its circumstances. For Conrad and his characters, the sea has created a habitat, which has been a place where the insinuation of knowledge, the confirmation of the meaning of the subject's existence, and the reflection on the inherent problems of western civilization have been exhibited in Conrad's works. Thus, the sea becomes a special space for examining and emphasizing human‘s subjectivity. This article will explore how the sea in Conrad‘s works reflects the writer's revelation and understanding of subjectivity from the perspectives of cognition, survival and writing. For a long time, people hold an one-sided and solidified view on the sea.Firstly, people choose simple suspension in the face of the mysterious sea that they cannot recognize.Secondly, there is a one-sided grasp of the sea by the way of naming or categorizing with the reason of human being's narrow-mindedness which should be to blame. With this subjectivity epistemology level suppressed facts, this article firstly attempts to use parable of "mirror" and "dream" to clarify how Conrad's sea bring people such suggestion of the subjectivity. This paper points out that the mechanism of suggestion relys on the tension relations such as the opposition of ideological and personal romantic mood in relation to Conrad and Jim.The second chapter discusses the sea as a space of human-existence and living embodiment. It aims to illustrates how Conrad‘s experience on the sea change the time perception of Jim,Wight and other characters, and influence their will,so as to restore the ideal individual atomic existence state of subjectivity in a specific context. With the disappearance of the enlightenment in the sea,the third chapter deliberately explains the final presentation of Conrad's "LITERARY SEA" prospect, focusing on how Conrad's understanding of the problem of "the paradoxical situation provided by the sea highlights human subjectivity" is precipitated into a conscious creative consciousness, which is implemented in the aspects of fiction writing and Conrad's impressionism.Based on the analysis of the novel Nostromo and the establishment of a new relationship between the sea and literary writing,it is concluded that Conrad transfers the contradictory situation on which subjectivity depends to from the survival situation to the new writing concept. In a word, what this article tries to solve is the necessity and possibility of self-confirmation in Conrad's works. The discussion on this issue is based on the situation from the initial "sea as an object of cognition" to the "sea as a space of human-existence",and finally to the "sea as writing rules".The author draws the conclusion that Conrad continues to maintain the efforts to confirm the subjectivity and tries to create a paradoxical growth situation from all aspects.Aiming at the current situation of domestic criticism, this paper aims to enrich the multidimensional interpretation of the ?SEA?,transcend the formalized interpretation, and finally clarify Conrad's revelation of the truth of subjective survival and its circumstances.
