A Translation Report On The Records Of Examination Of Craftsman Based On The Text Type Theory

In order to explore the translation methods of classics of science and technology and to examine its applicability,the full text of The Records of Examination of Craftsman has been translated.This book is the official record of Qi State's handicrafts in the Spring and Autumn Period of China.It contains a wide variety of industrial categories,and the norms formulated leave a great significance for the development of later handicraft industry.It can be called as a leading book for craftsmanship.The book is rich in sentence patterns and covers a wide range of fields.Therefore,the study of its translation methods is indispensable.This report is based on the text type theory proposed by Reiss to guide the whole translation activity.According to the requirements of the text type theory,The Records of Examination of Craftsman is classified as an informative text.The translation methods,such as literal translation,transliteration,interpretation and nominalization,adopted in translation at the lexical,syntactic and discoursal levels.Through the analysis of the applicability of translation methods and the combination with the textual characteristics of classics of science and technology,this report makes a summary that equivalence translation together with transliteration method,notes,interpretation,and nominalization shall be adopted in order to convey the information content accurately and faithfully and to maintain the text features of Chinese classics of science and technology.
