Super Speakers is an original new language TV reality show,which was launched on Anhui TV in 2013.It set off an upsurge of speech so that it becomes one of the most outstanding programs in reality shows in the annual audience rankings.It advocated that speaking is not only a kind of instinct but also a skill.Mastering the skill will help people build self-confidence.Super Speakers provides a stage and space to help speakers to make complete expressions and to ensure that everyone has a chance to become a "speaker",rather than just listen to others.In the reality show the speakers can freely express themselves,and each of them may represent the common voice of the group behind him/her.Therefore,the success of a speech is closely related to the proper use of language.It is of great importance to make a study of Super Speakers from the perspective of the pragmatic competence.The pragmatic competence is an important development as well as a hot research point of pragmatics.With the speeches of the speakers and the utterances of the supervisors in Super Speakers as its research object,this thesis makes a tentative study of their use of language on the basis of Chen Xinren's classification of the pragmatic competence,which includes the pragma-linguistic competence,the pragma-cognitive competence,the socio-pragmatic competence and the discoursal competence.This thesis makes a detailed analysis of whether the use of language is appropriate or not in their speeches or utterances and discusses the function and influence of the pragmatic competence on the success of the speech.The success of the reality show TV program Super Speakers is by no means fortuitous,and is indispensible to the skillful use of language of the speakers and the supervisors in the program.The biggest innovation of this thesis is that it is a new attempt to apply the pragmatic competence theory to the study of speech,and that it tries to study the language strategies of the success of the speech in terms of the pragmatic competence.The purpose of the study is to help people how to use language appropriately and make a successful speech.
