The General Senior High School English Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition)proposes four comprehensive language skills: listening,speaking,reading and writing.These four skills are an important form of communication between students and the outside world.At the same time,it is also an important criterion for testing students' comprehensive English proficiency.Reading has always occupied a very important position.At present,the research methods of reading teaching are different and the results are rich.“Content-based instruction” is a teaching method that combines language learning with subject content and exercises students' language skills.In foreign countries,scholars represented by Myriam Met(1991)take the lead in researching content-based instruction.Domestic research started late,Wang Shixian(1994)pushed the door of theoretical research and developed content-based instruction gradually.This thesis aims to combine content-based instruction with high school English reading teaching.According to the requirements of the new curriculum standards,the objectives of the core literacy of the discipline are effectively implemented,and the students' reading ability is emphasized.In order to enrich the achievements of education reform and innovation,it will inject new ideas into English reading teaching in high school.Content-based instruction advocates content as the keynote,paying attention to the significance of language rather than form.In order to prove the application effect in reading teaching in the high school,the author selected 101 students from two parallel classes in the High School Affiliated in Harbin Normal University in Heilongjiang as the experimental subjects.This study uses questionnaires,test questions,interviews and other research methods to collect and analyze the data.The final result shows: the students' interest in reading has been significantly improved,and the reading cognition has also made a good change.Tests showed that the experimental class had higher scores,and the control class did not change significantly.Content-based instruction can really help students improve their English reading ability.It also has great implications for English reading teaching in senior high school,such as English teaching shouldfocus on the combination of language and content to increase students' language skills;English teaching should pay attention to the integrity of discourse and implement the new requirements of the core literacy of the discipline;Teachers should select meaningful reading materials related to the topic,and expand the reading capacity of students;English teaching should focus on the students' interest and motivation and improve the communicative level of students;English teaching should focus on the student-centered concept and develop targeted learning strategies.The present research has great theoretical significance and practical significance.Theoretically,the thesis discusses the contented-based instruction and combines it with comprehensible input and schemata,which will help enrich the value of theoretical research.Practically,combining content-based instruction with communicative teaching theory and applying it to high school English reading teaching not only improves students' communicative competence,but also promotes the development of students' practical ability.
