With the rapid development of science and technology,literature on science and technology is continuously enriched and it increasingly requires translating.As a clear energy,nuclear energy has been a key point of research conducted by experts at home and abroad.However,studies on translation of this kind are relatively rare.Apparently,this report on the E-C translation of Safety and Regulatory Issues of the Thorium Fuel Cycle is of practical value.Texts on science and technology are characterized by rigorous logic,objective description and formal style.Guided by the text typology theory,the author has made much effort to render the version faithful,smooth and normal.First,this report briefly introduces the background of the selection of the project,overviews relevant studies and mentions the significance of this research.Next,the author analyses the features of the source text,including those of diction,sentence structures and discourse,and describes the process of translation at length.Then,the author expounds and proves the techniques for translation of words and phrases in the technical text,and techniques for translation of passive sentences and involved sentences in this text,including conversion of the voices,literal translation,adjustment of sentence order,and division,which fully verifies the feasibility of the translating techniques.Meanwhile,the author analyses references and conjunctions,two cohesion ties,in discourse.Finally,the author summarizes her major findings,points out the deficiencies,and mentions aspects to be improved in future translation.The report aims at enlightening translators of texts on science and technology so that they may do translation better.
