Abstract/Summary:
On the basis of previous studies,this paper examines the syntactic,semantic,pragmatic and textual functions of modal adverbs in Chinese linguistics by analyzing a large number of data.First of all,by comparing the"sihu(似乎)"in literary and artistic style with the one in academic style,this paper mainly investigates the semantic expression of"sihu(似乎)"in academic style,and focuses on the semantic types of"sihu(似乎)"in academic style.On the basis of quantitative statistics,this paper makes a qualitative comparative analysis of the corpus and sums up the semantic features of"sihu(似乎)"in the academic style by combining the previous researches on"sihu(似乎)".Secondly,this paper examines the position of"sihu(似乎)"in the sentence and its use with other words or phrases,and describes the distributional,combinatorial and ordinal characteristics of"sihu(似乎)"in the academic style.According to the investigation,this paper summarizes the commonness and individuality between academic style and literary style,and sums up the syntactic features of"sihu(似乎)"in academic style.Finally,by using the relevant theories and methods of cognitive linguistics and textual linguistics,and by comparing them with literary and artistic styles,this paper focuses on describing the characteristics of"sihu(似乎)"choice of sentence categories inacademic style.This paper analyzes the pragmatic functions of"sihu(似乎)"in academic style,and further studies the functions of"sihu(似乎)"in discourse.This paper holds that there are three semantic types and two syntactic positions in the"sihu(似乎)"of academic style,which express three syntactic functions.The pragmatic functions of"sihu(似乎)"in academic style are to indicate the point of view,to define the reference,to strengthen the argument,to express euphemism and modesty,and to"sihu(似乎)"to have the function of textual cohesion.The ability to interact with others.
