An Exploration On The Artistic Techniques In A Bite Of China Season One

In terms of the category of documentary,Western academic sphere divides it into artistic documentary and commercial documentary.However,Chinese scholars tend to divide it into three categories,namely,artistic documentary,commercial documentary,and political documentary.Artistic documentary usually has no narration.Filmed by the personal preference and style of the director,artistic documentary is featured with abundant imageries and long film length with the goal of winning awards.Commercial cdocumentary usually has narration and it adopts universal values as the themes to meet the market.Thus it can be seen that commercial documentary aims to seize the market and to attract attention of the audience to reach more sales.As the consequence,the directors of commercial documentary have to take theme selection,filming,production,and promotion into consideration to attract more audiences.Therefore,the creation of commercial documentary is not as free as that of artistic documentary.The gradation project of the author A Touch of Kuanzhai Alley(China Lane)falls into commercial documentary.Based on the personal experiences of creation process,the author aims to discuss the inspiration and help from the artistic techniques in A Bite of China Season One directed by Ren Changzhen.In addition,the author also probes into the practical problems and their solutions in filming commercial documentary.
