With the rapid economic growth in China and the on-going acceleration of economic globalization around the world, the communication and contact between countries are becoming increasingly close. This social development trend has also brought job opportunities for interpreters. However, the occupation of being an interpreter is full of tremendous stress and challenges, which means interpreters have to continuously learn and practice to achieve higher interpreting proficiency.Consecutive interpreting,as one of the most widely used types of interpreting, commonly takes place on many occasions such as bilateral negotiations, academic visiting and investigations, and symposiums. This paper is an interpreting report from the perspective of the Interpretive Theory based on a consecutive interpreting practice in symposium on Risk Management, the corpus of which is from the author's interpreting practice for a visiting professor from America.Based on the transcription made from the tape of the interpreting practice on the spot, the author finds out the existing problems such as incomplete and inexact interpreting, and also some useful skills employed during the whole process. After reflecting on the interpreting, the author finds that the interpreter should convey the meanings of the speech the speaker and avoid formal interference of the words,i.e.deverbalization.And an interpreter should boost his psychological qualities to detach himself from the influence from audience and avoid showing anxiety. An interpreter should make a full preparation for the specific knowledge. In addition,an interpreter should ganer all kinds of knowledge and vocabularies in daily life.In the case of consecutive interpreting, applying strategies of understanding the meanings of words according to the discourse is most useful. The author hopes that the experiences and strategies presented here can have some reference or enlightenment for any novices of interpreting.
