A Study Of Paul Gauguin's Figure Painting

After the mid-19th century,the social and economic development,the progress of science and technology,and the innovation and breakthrough of natural science have influenced and changed people's production and life style,but also brought about changes in people's artistic cognitive style,viewing perspective and aesthetic interest Under the influence of various social science concepts,the content,form and technique of painting art began to change from the real reproduction of objective reality to the individual expression of subjective freedom,and the subject of painting also began to change from social current events to individual emotional and formal expression.Figure painting,as a creative subject that has been explored and expressed in the history of Western painting,has also been endowed with different connotations of the times.Paul Gauguin(1848-1903)was a French post-Impressionist painter,sculptor,printmaker and pottery artist in the late 19th century.As the initiator and pioneer of primitive symbolic art form,he dared to explore primitive and pure artistic expression form in the indigenous tribes,pioneered the expression of the indigenous tribal people and life customs,and formed a unique artistic style in the creation of figure painting The emergence and development of any art form is always accompanied by the change of artist's creation theme and artistic concept,and the art works that conform to the characteristics of the times are derived.As the core theme of Gauguin's creation,figure painting determines the form and method of artistic works.It is not only a true representation of the character's morphological characteristics,but also a true expression of the artist's spiritual feelings.Gauguin as an innovator of traditional painting forms,has unique features in the theme and style of figure painting creation,and plays an important role in the transformation and development of modern art theories,forms and concepts.This paper is mainly divided into five parts:the introduction part outlines the topics and significance of the article,analyses the current research situation at home and abroad,and elaborates the research ideas and innovations of the paper.Chapter one briefly describes Gauguin's painting process from the beginning of art to the exploration of painting,and then to the exploration of primitive beauty.Chapter two analyses the subject types of Gauguin's figure painting.Chapter three focuses on the formal language features of Gauguin's figure painting.Chapter Four deduces the spiritual connotation of Gauguin's figure painting.Chapter Five summarizes the significance of the times of Gauguin figure painting,and summarizes it with my creative practice.This paper refers to Gauguin's autobiography,letters to others and related literary works based on Gauguin's archetype.Through the interpretation of Gauguin's figure painting's expressive techniques,creative ideas,artistic style and spiritual connotations,it explores the contemporary significance and artistic value of Gauguin's figure painting,as well as its guidance and Enlightenment to my creative practice.
