Dream description is a prominent feature of Lin Lanxiang and A Dream of Red Mansions.It is not only numerous,but also diverse in form.These fantasy writings have important narrative significance in the novel.They not only predict the fate of the characters in the book,but also show the theme of the novel.Although Lin Lanxiang is a novel that has not received wide attention for a long time,it expresses its feelings about the nihility and disillusionment of history and life through fantasy narration,which is very similar to the like eating up birds and throwing them into forests,falling into a vast expanse of white land is really clean in A Dream of Red Mansions.Cao Xueqin was inspired by his dream description and tragic implication.This paper takes the dream writing in Lin Lanxiang and A Dream of Red Mansions as the research objects,and through comparative analysis,summarizes the characteristics,similarities and differences of the two book’s dream writing.The full text is divided into three chapters:In the first chapter,according to the content and characteristics of dreams,the dreams appearing in Lin Lanxiang and “ A Dream of Red Mansions” are sorted out.There are three types of dream stories Lin Lanxiang prophetic dream,thinking dream and awakening dream.On this basis,A Dream of Red Mansions adds wishful dream,which has four types.A Dream of Red Mansions is influenced by the dream conception of Lin Lanxiang,which sets up a large number of dreams.However,the dream type of “A Dream of Red Mansions” is more abundant,and it is far beyond Lin Lanxiang in terms of dream writing techniques or content of dreams.The second chapter compares the tragic consciousness of the two works.Both Lin Lanxiang and A Dream of Red Mansions express a tragic consciousness of “life is like a dream” through dream narration.The female characters in the book begin to awaken their thoughts,but they all go to a tragic end under the pressure of feudal ethics.The female characters in A Dream of Red Mansions have sprouted the consciousness of resistance,while the female characters in Lin Lanxiang still stay on the awakening of thought.Both of themuse dreams to construct a narrative framework with dreams as the whole and express the feeling of life is like a dream.However,on the basis of Lin Lanxiang,A Dream of Red Mansions enhances the height and depth of thought.The third chapter compares the dream narrative works of the two works and their meanings,and summarizes the similarities and differences in the dream narrative of the two books.A Dream of Red Mansions draws lessons from the dreamlike narrative techniques of Lin Lanxiang,Dreams play an important role in characterization,the plot setting,dream space construction and theme deepening.However,the perfect combination of Quzhen and dream in A Dream of Red Mansions enriches the novel’s expressive techniques.Under the author’s careful creation,the dream breaks away from the traditional writing of the single meaning dream,has a literary symbolic meaning,and improves the aesthetic taste.
