"Cilin Records of Cabinet" twenty-two volumes,which compiled by Liao Daonan who was the Shijiang Bachelor of the Imperial Academy in Ming Jiajing Dynasty,is a literature recording the anecdotes of the Imperial Academy and Cabinet,biographies of the ministers who worked in them,and so on,since the founding of the descendants of Ming Dynasty to the early years of Ming Jiajing Dynasty.The existing versions of the book are Ming Jiajing Edition,Shu Lin Jiu Zheng Zhai of Janes Edition,the“Si Ku Quan Shu"Edition,"Hu Bei Xian Zheng Yi Shu"Edition,"Han Lin Zhang Gu Wu Zhong"Edition which checked and published by Wuhan University Company in 2015.The source of this book is wide,it not only bases on the official literature,such as "Ming Shi Lu",private literature such as"Han Lin Ji",all kinds of biographical literatures,anthologies,notes,but also Liao Daonan's poems,travel interviews,sees and hears in the Imperial Academy,and so on,it has been made by copying,abbreviating,simplificating,supplying,correcting the original text and other methods,it specially writes the biographies for the Imperial Academy and Cabinet ministers in the first eight volumes,the Imperial Academy and Cabinet anecdotes,events,and institutions in other fourteen volumes,so it has an important reference value in studying the Imperial Academy and their ministers,since the founding of the descendants of Ming Dynasty to the Ming Jiajing Dynasty;but there are flaws,errors and repeatition of the title names exist.
