At present,through the research and investigation of the current Senior English Reading teaching it has learnt that majority of teachers still apply traditional teaching approaches.Even if there are "Bilingual News" or "21st Century News",which are often availed for merely doing exercise;as to the other parts of the newspapers concerning celebrities’ introduction and introduction to technological developments and etc that are often omitted.Class reading teaching is thus often turned into language-based teaching.In the reading class,English teachers first ask a few questions about the text and then explain to the students a lot of vocabulary and grammar.In this way,students practice to consolidate vocabulary and grammar.Even though teachers and students spend a lot of energy and time in the traditional styled class,they do not achieve the desired results.This not only affects students’ enthusiasm in English reading and learning,but also undermines teacher’s confidence in teaching in the end.Therefore,this thesis first studies the actual situation of the English reading teaching in the senior schools of our country and then elaborates on the existing problems.In order to optimize and to innovate reading teaching methods and finally to formulate a reasonable and scientific teaching plan,it proposes to use the simplified literary works to assist senior high school English reading teaching.We had a conducted a comparative experiment,which is based on the theory of context with the mind map as an auxiliary reading method.The reading materials we had are 4th level of Oxford Bookworm’s Simplified Books(Adapted by the American Writers).There are 11 books,including Black Horse,Tale of Two Cities,Gulliver’s Travels,Treasure Island and so on,about 500,000 vocabularies.The experimental results show that it’s practical and effective to assist Senior High Students’ English Reading with simplified classics. |
