The Connotation And Historical Significance Of Baroque Monody | | Posted on:2020-05-15 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:X Y Xie | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2405330575960930 | Subject:School of music and dance | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | "Monody" is a kind of solo vocal voice accompanied by basso continuo,which emphasizes the relationship between words and music,and adopts a homophonic melody and harmonic accompaniment.It was popular in the late Renaissance and early baroque period,and is often translated as "dan sheng ge qu" in Chinese context.This music embodies an emerging music ideal at that time,which deeply influenced many music genres and styles,including madrigals,arias,recitatives and cantata,and is of great historical significance.Monody,as a technical term,is very flexible in the academic context of music in China and the West: sometimes as a genre of music,sometimes as a style of music,and sometimes it is described as a texture of music or a performance of music.Scholars are often inconsistent in the definition,although there is some consensus in the macro,there are many differences in the details.This indicates that it deserves to be systematically examined as a research topic to deepen our understanding of this important term and related historical phenomena and issues.This paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is devoted to sorting out and commenting on the current definition and use of monody in relevant literature,which provides a theoretical basis for the author’s definition of the term in the following paragraphs.The second chapter is the core of the paper.I will define monody in three contexts.The first is the historical context,to understand the original intention of its creators,so as to be closer to the original application intention of the term.The second and third contexts respectively focus on the attributes of monody as a genre and as a style.The third chapter will turn to its existence value and historical significance.It will start from music thought and music genre.At the aspect music thought,the changes in aesthetic consideration and composition methods in the late 16 th century will be discussed respectively.At the aspect of music genre,it will discuss the succession from the old genre,the influence of the new genre,and the relationship between the later genre and monody.The fourth chapter is a reflection on the principle of the thesis. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Monody, Solo song, Camerata, Early Baroque, Genre, Style, Terminology | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
