The Error Analysis Of Burmese Students' Perception Upon National Cultural Meanings Of Chinese Animal Words

Although China and Myanmar coexist in Asia,the economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries have a long history,and the ideas and values of the people in which countries seem to have many similarities.However,national cultural meanings of animal words have their own rich and unique cultural connotations in Chinese and Burmese,and there are significant differences in semantic association.These differences lead to difficulties for learners in the process of intercultural communication in using Chinese language.Therefore,national cultural words are also an important part of teaching Chinese in Myanmar.This research synthesizes the results of predecessors' research and chooses six kinds of animals which are commonly used as vehicles,namely horses,cattle,dragons,dogs,tigers and chickens,and makes a comparative analysis of the semantic association of these animals in Chinese and Burmese languages.On this basis,this paper chooses 145 typical and representative animal words from the Chinese Folklore Dictionary,and uses the method of questionnaire survey to understand the learning and understanding of Chinese animal words of Myanmar students who have reached HSK level 5.It also finds that the main types of errors can be classified as the confusion,omission and misrepresentation of the national culture meaning.Also,explore the causes of errors from interlingual and intralingual perspectives.Furthermore,the research puts forward some teaching suggestions from four aspects: shaping language environment,bringing up students' interest,improving instructors' teaching efficiency and the current situation of the textbooks.Finally,by using the transfer theory,this research collates a table of typical use contexts of animal words national cultural meanings in Chinese and Burmese,which suits reality of teaching,so as to provide a reference for Chinese teachers who do not understand Burmese,thus helping Burmese students to strengthen their fluency of Chinese animal words national cultural meanings,helping them to improve their ability of cross-cultural communication using animal words national cultural meanings.
