A Practical Report On Subtitle Translation Guided By Skopostheorie

China has opened to the outside through reform and opening up.In recent years,many English films with Western values have been shown in China.To a great extent,it owes to the translation of film subtitles.But subtitle translation is not as simple as most people imagine.On the one hand,for the appreciation level and language level of Chinese audience are intermingled,not everyone can appreciate the original film without subtitles.On the other hand,the language used in some movies reveals some western values culture that is not suitable for the Chinese audience and some obscure words have second meanings.These words have intrinsic meanings such as sexual teasing.At the same time,subtitle translation should not only retain the characteristics of English,but also consider the popularity and rhythmicity of the movie,which causes trouble for translators.However,predecessors have done some translation studies on it,and the Skoposthorie is a prescription for the translation of film subtitles.Skoposthorie is skopos-oriented and skopos is the highest principle,which is suitable for subtitles translation of films.Meanwhile,this kind of translation strategy focuses on the target audience.And it not only makes the film easy for the audience to understand,but also avoids the shortcomings of certain cultures.Through translation practice and previous researches,it is explicit that Skopostheorie can effectively guide the subtitle translation.This paper is based on the case study of The Pacific,and the examples of the subtitle translation are analyzed from the perspective of Skopostheorie.The first part of the article introduces the background of the writing,the meaning of writing,the concrete content and the literature review of the research at home and abroad.The second part illustrates the theoretical basis of the Skopostheorie according to the text type of the movie subtitle.In addition,the third part expounds a concrete case study of the subtitle translation in the English film The Pacific combined with the Skopostheorie.The conclusion of this paper are drawn in the last part.
