| Skopostheorie states that the skopos rule is the first rule which should be abided by translators and translation methods and strategies applied by translators should be determined by the translation purpose.Subtitle translation is a relatively new field of translation compared with other researches in this field.Undoubtedly,subtitle translation,which has already become an important link in modern communication,is gaining its popularity in translation field.Scholars published numerous related papers discussing the instruction role of Skopostheorie on subtitle translation and other themes’ translation.Guided by Skopostheorie,this report takes a qualitative analysis method and through analysis of chosen examples of the BBC program Word on the Street,it explores the specific characteristics and strategies of this translation type of the play.This play features in popular and easy-to-understand language which makes it easy in transmission.The author mainly introduces three strategies,expansion,analogy and domestication.Expansion is applied in subtitles which are ambiguous or short of information,analogy in phrases and sentences suited to be localized and domestication in subtitles difficult for audiences to understand.It is hoped that the report could be of help to other researchers in this field and other English lovers. |
