On Dialogue Translation In Fiction Under The Guidance Of Cooperative Principle

Dialogue is one of the most important parts of fiction to show the characters'characteristics and to promote plot development.An excellent dialogue description is just like the hand that can uncover the mysterious veil of characters for readers so that they can more directly and vividly feel the emotions and human nature.Cooperative principle was put forward by the famous language philosopher Grice.H.P.In his opinion,during communication,both sides of the conversation seem to consciously or unconsciously follow a certain principle to effectively cooperate so as to complete communication tasks.He calls this principle cooperative principle.Cooperative principle consists of four maxim,which are the maxim of quality,the maxim of quantity,the maxim of relevance and the maxim of manner.In language communication,obeying Cooperative Principle will produce some conversational meanings,while violating certain maxim will also produce conversational meanings.In actual dialogue and communication description in fiction,the author would usually choose to violate certain maxim in order to better show characters,characteristics and promote plot development.In translation,on the one hand,we should consider following the description means of"violation" to keep the "original taste"of the original text as far as possible;on the other hand,we should also consider the age,cultural background and language habits of target language readers,so that the target text will not affect the reading experience while pursuing the effect of"violation".From the perspective of Cooperative Principle,the author hopes to analyze the dialogue phenomenon in this novel that violates the four principles,and to think about in target text,how to deal with the means of"violation" in the original text,so as to improve the quality of the translation.
