A Research On Trajan’s Ruling Policy

Trajan was one of the famous “Five Good Emperors” during the Antonian Dynasty of Roman Empire.He was awarded the title of “Optimus Princeps” by the Roman Senate.However,the current academic research on Trajan is insufficient.This thesis focuses on Trajan’s ruling policies,discusses his administrative program,analyzes the influences of his ruling policies on the roman society and Hadrian.The paper consists of following parts.The introduction is about the present research at home and abroad,the basic historical materials used in the thesis,as well as the significance and innovation of this paper and research methods.The first part introduces the general situation of the Roman society before Trajan’s reign and the historical background of Trajan’s succession.The second part discusses Trajan’s policies of ruling the Italy,which included improving relations with the Senate,revitalizing Italian agriculture,the alimenta,as well as the construction engineering activities,etc.The third part elaborates Trajan’s provincial governance policies including governors’ appointment,the religious tolerance policy and the Romanization policy of Dacia province.The fourth part discusses Trajan’s strategy of governing the military,such as rectifying the military discipline,expanding the army and preparing for war,and carrying out military reforms.The fifth part discusses Trajan’s foreign wars,especially Dacia and Parthian war.The last part analyzes the impact of Trajan’s ruling policies on Hadrian and presents a general evaluation on his policies.
