Intercultural Conflict And Integration

With the development of economy globalization and the progress of science and technology,the exchanges between countries around the world are also increasingly frequent,and people's ideas change with them naturally.With this change people can no longer use the old cultural concepts and thinking patterns to comprehend the rapidly changing events.At the same time,people from different cultural countries would have a lot of troubles,contradictions and even conflicts in the process of communication.These not only hinder the mutual development of nations,but also create an alienating psychological barrier.These are the factors which are not conducive to economic integration and globalization.In consequence,the urgent issue at present is how to overcome cultural differences and to avoid cultural conflicts.The importance of conflict management is self-evident.Films extend ordinary people's lives,break the restriction of time,space and geography,and enable the audience to see the colorful world,and understand cultural diversity.As a form of cultural communication,films play a very important role in intercultural communication.Although films themselves are not the reality,they reflect the reality to some extent.The Wedding Banquet is an influential piece of “Family Trilogy” by the Taiwanese director Ang Lee.Ang Lee shows the cultural collision and conflict caused by the cultural differences between the East and the West through the narration of the trivia in family life,which makes people think about the intercultural conflict.Based on intercultural conflict management theory,this paper aims to analyze the cultural conflicts caused by the cultural differences between China and the United States in The Wedding Banquet by the method of cultural comparison,and to try to find out the root causes of the cultural conflicts,and to explore the styles of cultural integration.Drawing on the lessons from the way that Ang Lee deals with the family conflicts between China and the West in the film,this paper offers suggestions for the reasonable construction of family ethics development in contemporary society,so as to achieve active and effective intercultural conflicts management in the face of cultural conflicts.
