This is a translation project report on chapter five and chapter six of Salem Is My Dwelling Place:A Life of Nathaniel Hawthorne written by Professor Edwin Haviland Miller of New York University. This biography shows the life track and heart journey of Hawthorne who is regarded as the greatest romantic writer in 19th century of America. In the process of translation, the author chooses Reception Aesthetics as a guide, which values and put emphasis on the role and feeling of the readers and believes that the functions of a work are fulfilled in the process of reading by the readers, and it is the readers who take part in the final fulfillment of a work actively. With the guidance of Reception Aesthetics, the author adopts some methods such as cutting, conversion, amplification and omission, and uses specific examples to analyse how to take care of the reception and aesthetic experience of the readers, hoping that the translation can better meet the expectations of the readers and fit their language habits.Through the practice, the author is aware that translation builds up a intercultural bridge, whether the convey of information and emotion is accurate and appropriate or not depends on the ability and sensibility of the translators. So nothing put ahead of the author but exertion and perseverance.
